BIOFA produces genuinely natural paints, oils, waxes, glazes, varnishes, cleaning and care products.

The fundamental philosophy of BIOFA is to produce highly effective products that are harmless to health for people, animals and the environment.

BIOFA's History

BIOFA was founded in Germany in 1976 as a subsidiary of a homeopathic remedy company, with the aim of offering products that do not contain chlorinated hydrocarbons.

The BIOFA founder, graduate engineer Werner Hahn, transferred his experience from the production of medicinal products to the production of natural colours, oils, waxes, varnishes, glazes, care and cleaning agents. BIOFA established a number of principles for its own work, which also define the scope for the raw materials that can be used and their processing.

In 1983 BIOFA-Naturfarben became an independent company and one year later it was renamed BIOFA Naturprodukte W. Hahn GmbH.

From the beginning, the company was designed as a family business, and its fundamental approach was healthy development in all areas of the company. The focus of the work has always been to meet BIOFA's own demands on the natural and technical quality of the products while taking the technical requirements of the market into account.

BIOFA has always been a modern company that has consistently furthered technical development of its products.

A special focus has been on the training and further education of BIOFA employees, because dealing with natural substances requires a different basic attitude than dealing with chemical substances. BIOFA's positive working atmosphere and many long standing employees are testament to the company's commitment to its employees.

The company founder Werner Hahn and the board of trustees have successfully provided for the future with further qualified employees from their own ranks. In recent years, measures have focused particularly on the profitability and productivity of the business. This led to the reduction of the product range and to the improvement of processes - including the development of new products, personnel qualifications and lowering of costs.

Verifiable Quality in Natural Products

Since it was founded in 1976, BIOFA has attached great importance to a holistic approach to quality. That means BIOFA closely monitors and checks the quality and safety of its products, from the origin of the raw materials or ingredients through production to the finished product and the subsequent recycling process.

The trust and high expectations of consumers in the high quality of BIOFA are also confirmed by well-known quality seals. All BIOFA products are subject to strict test criteria, which as a rule go far beyond the statutory provisions, including a full ingredients declaration on all product data sheets. The quality of the products and the raw materials is examined by independent institutes using the most modern test methods, which ensures national and international standards.
